The new driver technology is based on the previous titanium drivers: their surface is treated in a complex chemical process and acoustically brought to a new level. The aim was to minimize or completely eliminate the partial vibrations that damage the sound. With less weight, the new titanium-graphite chassis are stiffer and have better damping. Particularly impressive is the fact that these drivers do not exhibit any partial vibrations in the entire useful range and crossover range. In addition, the new drivers work as perfect piston transducers and thus offer ideal conditions for reproducing acoustic signals one-to-one, without losses.

Noble Enclosures for the Best Sound

The new cabinets not only look high quality, they also have to meet Canton's rigid technical requirements. The revised design ensures that more interior volume is available to tune the speakers with more bandwidth in the low frequency range. As a result, the new Vento speakers perform with even more contour and cleanliness. In addition, the sharp-edged cabinet radii, the modified base, and the new basic shape ensure less sound interference from the cabinet itself. Hidden from the listener's view, the large bass reflex port in the cabinet base extends the frequency response downwards. The downfire arrangement of the bass reflex port acoustically stimulates the room evenly - precise, deep bass without any tendency to boom is the desired result.

The solidly built cabinets of the Townus 90 three-way floor-standing loudspeakers are reinforced several times on the inside and equipped with high-quality internal cabling. Strategically placed damping material inside the cabinets and selected crossover components of the best quality optimise the sound of the speakers, which weigh about 24 kilograms. The four drivers in the slim Townus 90 loudspeakers are state of the art and provide the renowned good Canton sound. Three 174 mm drivers, with titanium diaphragms, enable dynamic bass and detailed, powerful mids. Thanks to the bass drivers with stiff and low-distortion double cones and Wave Beading technology, the Townus 90 still play precisely and calmly even at high sound levels. In combination with our patented DC technology, the 174 mm bass duo in the downfire bass reflex cabinet reproduces powerful and precise bass without the cones of the bass speakers deflecting uncontrollably at low tones. The elegant front-firing subwoofer is equipped with a 308 mm BCT chassis, which is supported by an equally large passive cone on the underside of the cabinet for low-frequency reproduction. Its up to 750-watt digital power amplifier confidently fires the subwoofer with power. Thanks to the DSPs integrated in the Reference Sub and the Room Compensation technology, the active subwoofer plays precisely down to 18 Hertz. The Reference Sub can also be adjusted to the room acoustics in three stages. During movie nights, the Reference Subwoofer becomes the perfect acoustic companion and lets you experience every movie moment intensively.

Equipment and technology

The Reference Sub is a front-firing subwoofer with the support of a downfire passive radiator. In order to work precisely and confidently at any volume level, the 308 mm drivers are suspended in triple folded wave surrounds of the latest generation. Compared to conventional surrounds, the wave surrounds allow for much greater excursion and reduce sound distortion. The connection to an amplifier or AV receiver is made possible by the high- or low-level inputs. The volume level, crossover frequency and phase can be continuously adjusted on the powerful active module on the back of the subwoofer. The technical equipment of the 37kg Reference Subwoofer is completed by an automatic on/off switch.

Its elegant design strictly follows the high acoustic demands that our developers place on a loudspeaker. The curved walls, the round baffle and the completely newly developed black adapter rings made of POM (polyoxymethylene) optimize the sound radiation of the center speaker. For harmonious integration into your living space, we offer the Reference Center in two different cabinet finishes: White Satin and Black Piano. The satin finish of the white version gives the speakers a modern and timeless appearance. The glossy surface of the "Black Piano" version captivates with an enormous depth effect, which is achieved by applying and polishing twelve layers of lacquer.

Superior technology

In the Reference Center, which is 70 centimeters wide and 27 centimeters high with base, three potent speaker drivers provide immersive sound. Two 174 mm BCT drivers and a 25 mm BC dome tweeter are responsible for the sound in the 3-way design. The black BCT cones of the midrange and woofers provide high rigidity and good internal damping despite their light weight. In addition, the midrange driver, which is installed in its own enclosure, uses a cone with TCC technology. These measures allow for precise and accurate reproduction of the bass and midrange with minimal distortion. The BC tweeter contributes to the center's detailed and transparent reproduction. Sound tuning

The Reference Center scores not only with its excellent sound, but also with the use of high-quality components and equipment. For the Reference Center, we use WBT nextgen™ connection terminals made in Germany. They ensure a contact-safe and loss-free transmission of the audio signal. The Reference 9K benefits sonically from its solid multi-layer laminate enclosure, which keeps sound-degrading resonances away from the speaker drivers used. Sound Wonder

Our knowledge from over 50 years of speaker construction combined in compact and acoustically pristine speakers - the Reference 9. Equipped with the technologies of a floorstanding speaker, they offer the potential to fill even larger rooms thanks to the large mid-bass driver. The bass guide, used for the first time in a compact speaker, is an integral part of the speaker base and allows uncomplicated placement on sideboards or freely in the room with the ideally matching speaker stands "Reference LS". Thanks to precise tuning in the laboratory and listening room and the use of high-quality crossover components, the 2-way speakers offer great sound from compact cabinets.

Modern technology

The compact Reference 9 loudspeakers feature one 174 mm BCT cone per loudspeaker, which offers high rigidity and outstanding internal damping at a low dead weight. The BCT cone enables precise and accurate reproduction of the low and midrange. The perfect playing partner for the bass-midrange driver is the 25 mm BC tweeter, which shines with its detailed and transparent reproduction and impressively underpins the excellent sound quality of the Reference 9. A large part of the excellent sound of the speaker is the precisely designed crossover, which is equipped with hand-selected components. The Reference 9 are equipped with WBT nextgen™ connection terminals, which enable a contact-safe and loss-free connection between the speakers and the amplifier. The connection terminal is equipped with our RC technology, which allows for sensitive tweeter adjustment in 1.5 decibel increments. The level adjustment allows the compact speakers to be adapted to listening preferences or to have a corrective effect on the existing room acoustics.

Design

We develop and manufacture our Reference loudspeaker systems at our factory in Weilrod in the Taunus region of Germany. To achieve the best possible sound development from compact cabinets, we have developed the Reference 9 cabinets from scratch. They feature generous radii on the side panels, bottoms and lids, and have a round baffle to realize the greatest possible edge clearance of the cabinet. This design concept reduces diffraction effects at the edges and contributes significantly to optimizing the speaker's sound dispersion. A computer-optimized chamber system and the sophisticated internal stiffening prevent standing waves and sound-damaging cabinet resonances. The high-gloss "Black Piano" surface sealant is applied in twelve layers, sanded and elaborately polished. It gives the Reference 9's cabinet an overwhelming sense of depth. As an alternative, the speakers are available in the "White Satin" finish. Acoustically optimized fabric covers adhere magnetically to the baffle for each chassis individually and round off the noble appearance of the compact Reference 9 sovereign.

With the high-quality WBT nextgen™ binding posts, the Reference 7 ensure optimal signal transmission to the connected audio devices. Modern technology

For the completely newly conceived Reference Series enclosures, round baffles were designed for the first time, which are manufactured on a 5-axis CNC milling machine specially provided for this purpose. The elaborately curved side walls, bottoms and lids provide enormous stability and significantly reduced natural resonance behavior of the speaker enclosure. As a result, the Reference 5 offer a very homogeneous dispersion behavior and an authentic staggering of the music. The Reference 5 speakers feature two 174 mm BCT woofers equipped with black ceramic tungsten cones. These work in perfect harmony with the large enclosure volume and efficient bass guide system to deliver contour-sharp low end and rich deep bass. The equally sized BCT midrange driver, housed in its own enclosure, contributes to a natural and authentic sound image with finely resolved mids. The sound spectrum is rounded off by the 25 mm BC tweeter with black aluminum oxide ceramic cone, which ensures detailed and homogeneous highs.

New diaphragms

The midrange and woofer systems of all Reference loudspeakers are characterized by their advanced BCT cones. In the BCT diaphragm, 25 percent of the molecular structure of an aluminum cone is converted into a ceramic structure and refined with tungsten and additional metal particles. As a result, the diaphragms achieve a perfect stiffness-to-weight ratio and turn black on the front and back surfaces during the creation process. In addition, the specially shaped black midrange ceramic cone in TCC technology stabilizes the membrane and reduces unwanted resonances. This is how we achieve precise and distortion-free reproduction. To optimize the sound, our latest generation Wave Beading technology is used in the Reference 5. This ensures a smooth transient response even at high volumes and large diaphragm excursions.

Contact

The Reference 5 speakers are equipped with high-quality WBT nextgen™ connectors and allow bi-wiring and bi-amping. These connectors are the basis for excellent sound quality and provide long-term stable contact. If you do not want to use the bi-wiring or bi-amping mode, high-quality hard-gold-plated copper bridges are included. The Reference 5s feature controls on the speaker terminal for Canton's RC (Room Compensation) technology. With this level adjustment, the sound pressure levels of the midrange and tweeter can be sensitively adjusted in 1.5 decibel steps. The Reference 3K ranks third in the Reference K Hierarchy. Slightly smaller and less heavy than its larger siblings, the Reference 3K nevertheless offers everything a hi-fi heart desires: the incomparably good Canton sound and a noble appearance. The heavy cabinet with perfect surface finish, the technically superior equipment and the elegant design make it unmistakably clear that the Reference 3K is a speaker of the very highest quality. In the slim 3-way speakers, the two ceramic tungsten bass drivers provide unleashed dynamics and enormous low bass. However, thanks to the low-loss wave surrounds that clamp the midrange and woofer and the superbly resolving ceramic tweeter, the Reference 3Ks also impress with their excellent fine dynamics at low volumes. The acoustically optimized enclosures with the characteristic bow shape and organically curved side walls set standards in terms of radiation behavior, stability and low resonance.

A Worthy Appearance

Canton develops and manufactures the loudspeaker systems of the Reference K Series in their factory in Weilrod in the Taunus region of Germany. This is the only way to maintain the necessary quality standards, minimize tolerances, eliminate defects, and keep the high sound requirements for their top products. The Reference 3K cabinets are made of high-quality multi-layer laminate. In an elaborate special process, the characteristic bow shape of the speaker is milled from solid material. The noble, high-gloss surface finish "Piano Finish" is applied, sanded and elaborately polished in 12 work steps. It gives the Reference 3K cabinet an overwhelming sense of depth. Acoustically optimized two-piece fabric covers, which are elegantly held in place on the baffle by magnetic fasteners, round off the elegant appearance.

Our Best Materials

The Reference 3K benefits sonically from the solid, multi-stiffened cabinets made of multi-layer laminate, which keep sound-diminishing resonances away from the speaker drivers used. In the low and midrange, Canton uses the most technically advanced drivers. They take advantage of the excellent material properties of aluminum-ceramic cones refined with tungsten particles, which are characterized by their enormous stiffness combined with high, internal damping... all this with very low weight and extended frequency range. The excellent 1" dome tweeter with aluminum oxide ceramic diaphragm is used in the high frequency range. Sound-optimized crossover components and the highly effective base design with Bass Guide ensure the highest possible fidelity.

The Reference 3K is equipped with a high-quality biwiring/ biamping connection terminal, allowing the low and mid-high ranges to be driven separately with different amplifiers or with specialized cables. 24k gold-plated, stable screw terminals with a capacity for cable cross-sections of up to 10mm2, ensure optimum signal transmission. The levels for the midrange and treble can be finely adjusted at the connection terminal, depending on personal preferences or room acoustic conditions.

New Canton Reference 2023

Canton has been a leader in loudspeaker audio technology for over 50 years and the number one loudspeaker company in Germany. The new 2023 Reference Series are Canton’s highest performing speaker series to date and replace the Reference K Series originally released in 2015.

The new Reference Series features entirely new cabinets that offer exceptional sound with a smaller footprint than their predecessors as well newly developed drivers utilizing cutting-edge proprietary composite materials developed in Canton’s own materials science lab.

At the heart of the Reference 2023 Series is the all-new rounded cabinet. The new, intricate cabinet structure has been meticulously engineered to minimize unwanted resonance and are manufactured on a specially designed 5-axis CNC milling machine. The Reference 2023 Series also features new mid and bass drive units optimized and refined with a new high-strength Black Ceramic Tungsten material.

The Reference 2023 speakers are manufactured with the utmost care at the company headquarters in Weilrod, Germany. Thanks to the use of first-class materials and components, consistent and precise quality is guaranteed. The high-quality walnut veneer is refined using a special sanding technique and matte lacquer treatment. 12 layers of lacquer are required for the high-gloss black version with "piano finish" alone. Layer by layer, the cabinets are lacquered, sanded and finally polished.

Powerful Elegance

The edge-free design of the Reference 3 not only ensures a modern design but is the basis for perfect sound development, characterized by authentic spatial imaging and staggering music. 2 woofers with high-strength BCT cones made of black ceramic tungsten and the large midrange driver made of the same material ensure excellent dynamic characteristics in the perfectly tuned 3-way speaker. In the BCT diaphragm, 25% of the molecular structure of an aluminum cone is converted into a ceramic structure and refined with tungsten and additional metal particles. As a result, the diaphragms achieve a perfect stiffness-to-weight ratio and turn black on the front and back surfaces during the creation process. In addition, the specially shaped black midrange ceramic cone in TCC technology stabilizes the membrane and reduces unwanted resonances.

Sweeping Design

The 43" high Reference 3 are powerful speakers in elegantly shaped cabinets. Their curved side panels, gently sloping curved tops and round baffles create a flowing, harmonious design that skillfully conceals the large cabinet volumes. The newly designed base is not only a stable foundation for the speaker - it also forms the bass guide which radiates low-frequency tones throughout in equal parts. Thanks to the newly developed asymmetrical cover rings, the 4 loudspeaker drivers sit flush with the surface and without visible screw connections in the baffle. In addition, the cover rings act as waveguides, optimizing sound dispersion in the midrange and treble range. 4 individual, acoustically transparent and form-fitting fabric covers nestle against the baffle with magnetic adhesion.

Perfect Contact

The Reference 3's high-end binding posts come from established German manufacturer WBT. The low-mass WBT nextgen™ binding posts enable single, bi-wiring and bi-amping operation. The lower mass of the binding posts reduces eddy currents and ensures a superior sound image. If you do not want to use the bi-wiring or bi-amping mode, high-quality hard-gold-plated copper bridges are included.

The Reference 2K is the second largest model in Canton's high-end Reference K family. It's slightly less large and heavy than the flagship Reference 1K, but no less musical and dynamic! It plays in all nuances of sound and at all levels as calmly as confidently. The cabinets of the Canton Reference 2 are designed according to the latest acoustic findings free of edges. Their elegant form follows function, resulting in a speaker with remarkable characteristics. In addition to its modern design, it is also extremely stable and provides a perfect basis for sound-optimized radiation. The workmanship of the cabinets is of the highest quality and allows for aesthetic integration in any living environment. 4 speaker drivers operate in a 3-chamber system, offering perfectly-sized volumes for each branch of the 3-way speaker design. The double-bass configuration with 8.6" woofers, in conjunction with the optimized dispersion ratio of the latest generation bass guide, ensures enormous low bass, while also allowing flexible placement of the Reference 2 in the listening room. The 6.8" midrange driver, deliberately positioned at the top of the speaker, ensures authentic, lively reproduction of voices. Visually and acoustically the ideal complement is the powerful BC tweeter with 1" dome tweeter made of black aluminum oxide ceramic.

Sound Optimized

The Reference 2 loudspeakers integrate all drivers flush into the round baffle with the aid of the new 3D ASW (Asymetric Waveguide Ring) cover rings made of polyoxymethylene (POM). These optimize the dispersion characteristics in the high frequency and mid ranges. The enclosure design is focused on sound optimization and uses strong multi-layer laminate and sophisticated damping and internal stiffening for low-resonance enclosures. The new crossovers with epoxy resin-glass fabric composite and a copper overlay of 70 µm allows for large dim-ionized conductor cross sections and minimization of magnetic field interference, ensuring optimum performance and precise sound.

The Reference 2 speakers are equipped with WBT's low-mass nextgen™ binding posts and high-quality gold-plated copper bridges, enabling single, bi-wiring and bi-amping operation. The terminal plate of the Reference 2 speaker has been extended by a level adjustment (Room Compensation) allowing the SPL of the midrange and tweeter to be precisely raised or lowered in 1.5 decibel steps, optimizing the speakers for a variety of listening room characteristics and listening positions.
