In reference to the roots and the location of our company headquarters, in the middle of the Hessian Taunus, we have created the same sounding name Townus for the new loudspeaker models. The newly created Townus series impresses with its timeless, elegant design and its high-quality materials - ideal for urban people who value design and quality. In the word creation Townus, we also refer to the connection between the modern and pulsating life in a town and the rather quiet and rural Taunus, where the creators of this timeless and modern speaker series have their origins.

Townus 90: Perfect in Form

Our Townus 90 3-way floor-standing loudspeakers captivate with timeless elegance thanks to their discreetly elegant enclosures and fine surfaces. Harmonious proportions, rounded cabinet edges and the screwless integration of the drivers into the slim baffle make our Townus 90 a jewel in any living ambience. The rounded cabinet edges not only give the Townus 90 an elegant look - they also improve the sound dispersion of the speakers. Flawless surfaces in silk matt or high-gloss lacquers as well as fine real wood veneers with a perfect finish underline the premium claim of the new Townus speaker series. Further visual highlights are the high-quality aluminium rings of the loudspeaker chassis, which are manufactured using the Seamless Diamond Cut process, and the fabric panels, rounded at the corners, which adhere magnetically to the baffles. Last but not least, the beautifully shaped wooden base with four metal feet serves as a solid foundation for the slim floorstanding speakers. Hidden from the listener's view, the large bass reflex port in the cabinet base extends the frequency response downwards. The downfire arrangement of the bass reflex port acoustically stimulates the room evenly - precise, deep bass without any tendency to boom is the desired result.

Design and Technology

The solidly built cabinets of the Townus 90 three-way floor-standing loudspeakers are reinforced several times on the inside and equipped with high-quality internal cabling. Strategically placed damping material inside the cabinets and selected crossover components of the best quality optimise the sound of the speakers, which weigh about 24 kilograms. The four drivers in the slim Townus 90 loudspeakers are state of the art and provide the renowned good Canton sound. Three 174 mm drivers, with titanium diaphragms, enable dynamic bass and detailed, powerful mids. Thanks to the bass drivers with stiff and low-distortion double cones and Wave Beading technology, the Townus 90 still play precisely and calmly even at high sound levels. In combination with our patented DC technology, the 174 mm bass duo in the downfire bass reflex cabinet reproduces powerful and precise bass without the cones of the bass speakers deflecting uncontrollably at low tones. The tried-and-tested 25 mm dome tweeter made of Aluminium oxide ceramic shines with its detailed and accurate sound. A precisely calculated waveguide for ideal sound radiation and coupling optimizes the speaker's reproduction, up to 40,000 Hertz.

Craftsmanship

Canton develops and manufactures the loudspeaker systems of their Reference K Series in their factory in Weilrod in the Taunus region. This is the only way to maintain necessary quality standards, minimize tolerances, eliminate any defects, and keep the high sound requirements for top products. The Reference 7K cabinets are made of high-quality multi-layer laminate and undergo a complex finishing process: the high-gloss "Piano Finish" surface sealant is applied, sanded and elaborately polished in twelve work steps. It gives the Reference 7K cabinet an overwhelming depth effect. As an alternative, the Reference 7K are offered in an even more refined and visually truly impressive variant: the cabinets in cherry real wood veneer with "Piano Finish" are pure craftsmanship and inspire with their lively grain and warm color tone. Acoustically optimized fabric covers, which elegantly hold on the baffle by magnetic fastening, round off the noble appearance sovereign.

Ambitious

The Reference 7K benefits sonically from the solid, multi-stiffened cabinets made of multi-layer laminate, which keep sound-reducing resonances away from the speaker drivers used. In the low and midrange, the most technically advanced drivers are used. Canton takes full advantage of the excellent material properties of aluminum-ceramic cones refined with tungsten particles, characterized by their enormous stiffness combined with high, internal damping. All of this is achieved with very low weight and extended frequency range. The 25mm dome tweeter with aluminum-oxide ceramic diaphragm is used in the high frequency range. Sound-optimized crossover components and the highly effective base design with Bass Guide ensure the highest possible fidelity.

The Reference 7K is equipped with a high-quality biwiring/ biamping connection terminal, allowing the low and mid-high ranges to be driven separately with different amplifiers or with specialized cables. 24k gold-plated, stable screw terminals with a capacity for cable cross-sections of up to 10mm2, ensure optimum signal transmission. The levels for the midrange and treble can be finely adjusted at the connection terminal, depending on personal preferences or room acoustic conditions.

The Reference 7 are elegant 3-way speakers equipped with first-class speaker drivers. Two impulse-joyful 154 mm BCT woofers with black ceramic tungsten cones deliver precise bass. This is achieved in combination with the efficient bass guide system and a perfectly tuned cabinet volume. The BCT midrange driver, also 154 millimeters, provides finely resolved, impulsive mids that contribute to the Reference 7's natural and authentic sound. The 25 mm BC tweeter with black aluminum oxide ceramic cone completes the sound spectrum and delivers detailed and homogeneous highs. In the crossover, hand-picked components with minimal tolerance specifications ensure a balanced impedance curve and perfect impulse response of the speaker drivers. The Reference 7 are not only outstanding floorstanding speakers in terms of sound quality and design, but also offer innovative connection options, with the option of bi-wiring or bi-amping. With the high-quality WBT nextgen™ binding posts, the Reference 7 ensure optimal signal transmission to the connected audio devices. Thanks to the included hard gold-plated copper bridges, you can exploit the full potential of the speakers should the bi-wiring or bi-amping mode not be used. The speaker is equipped with controls for RC (Room Compensation) technology located on the speaker terminal. Modern technology

For the completely newly conceived Reference Series enclosures, round baffles were designed for the first time, which are manufactured on a 5-axis CNC milling machine specially provided for this purpose. The elaborately curved side walls, bottoms and lids provide enormous stability and significantly reduced natural resonance behavior of the speaker enclosure. As a result, the Reference 5 offer a very homogeneous dispersion behavior and an authentic staggering of the music. The Reference 5 speakers feature two 174 mm BCT woofers equipped with black ceramic tungsten cones. These work in perfect harmony with the large enclosure volume and efficient bass guide system to deliver contour-sharp low end and rich deep bass. The equally sized BCT midrange driver, housed in its own enclosure, contributes to a natural and authentic sound image with finely resolved mids. The sound spectrum is rounded off by the 25 mm BC tweeter with black aluminum oxide ceramic cone, which ensures detailed and homogeneous highs.

New diaphragms

The midrange and woofer systems of all Reference loudspeakers are characterized by their advanced BCT cones. In the BCT diaphragm, 25 percent of the molecular structure of an aluminum cone is converted into a ceramic structure and refined with tungsten and additional metal particles. As a result, the diaphragms achieve a perfect stiffness-to-weight ratio and turn black on the front and back surfaces during the creation process. In addition, the specially shaped black midrange ceramic cone in TCC technology stabilizes the membrane and reduces unwanted resonances. This is how we achieve precise and distortion-free reproduction. To optimize the sound, our latest generation Wave Beading technology is used in the Reference 5. This ensures a smooth transient response even at high volumes and large diaphragm excursions.

Contact

The Reference 5 speakers are equipped with high-quality WBT nextgen™ connectors and allow bi-wiring and bi-amping. These connectors are the basis for excellent sound quality and provide long-term stable contact. If you do not want to use the bi-wiring or bi-amping mode, high-quality hard-gold-plated copper bridges are included. The Reference 5s feature controls on the speaker terminal for Canton's RC (Room Compensation) technology. With this level adjustment, the sound pressure levels of the midrange and tweeter can be sensitively adjusted in 1.5 decibel steps. This allows the speakers to be optimally adapted to personal listening tastes and room acoustics.

The new Reference Series features entirely new cabinets that offer exceptional sound with a smaller footprint than their predecessors as well newly developed drivers utilizing cutting-edge proprietary composite materials developed in Canton’s own materials science lab.

At the heart of the Reference 2023 Series is the all-new rounded cabinet. The new, intricate cabinet structure has been meticulously engineered to minimize unwanted resonance and are manufactured on a specially designed 5-axis CNC milling machine. The high-quality walnut veneer is refined using a special sanding technique and matte lacquer treatment. 12 layers of lacquer are required for the high-gloss black version with "piano finish" alone. The newly designed base is not only a stable foundation for the speaker - it also forms the bass guide which radiates low-frequency tones throughout in equal parts. Thanks to the newly developed asymmetrical cover rings, the 4 loudspeaker drivers sit flush with the surface and without visible screw connections in the baffle. In addition, the cover rings act as waveguides, optimizing sound dispersion in the midrange and treble range. 4 individual, acoustically transparent and form-fitting fabric covers nestle against the baffle with magnetic adhesion.

The Reference 3's high-end binding posts come from established German manufacturer WBT. The low-mass WBT nextgen™ binding posts enable single, bi-wiring and bi-amping operation. The lower mass of the binding posts reduces eddy currents and ensures a superior sound image. Sound Optimized

The Reference 2 loudspeakers integrate all drivers flush into the round baffle with the aid of the new 3D ASW (Asymetric Waveguide Ring) cover rings made of polyoxymethylene (POM). These optimize the dispersion characteristics in the high frequency and mid ranges. The enclosure design is focused on sound optimization and uses strong multi-layer laminate and sophisticated damping and internal stiffening for low-resonance enclosures. The new crossovers with epoxy resin-glass fabric composite and a copper overlay of 70 µm allows for large dim-ionized conductor cross sections and minimization of magnetic field interference, ensuring optimum performance and precise sound.
