Behind the Design

From Jay's Audio

While making it, we wanted to create an experience that is dynamically rich, exciting, powerful, and beautiful like the word “Star” that Estrella is named after. It has to be an IEM that fully connects with its listener, and elevates the joy that music brings.

Even though our earlier prototypes were beasts in their own right, what really separated Estrella was how it made me move with the music. I felt connected, engaged, and couldn’t stop head bopping to the songs that came on. I’ve reviewed and tested over 300 IEMS now, and even then Estrella still remains a spark of excitement in the mundane, it’s a breathe of fresh air in the overcrowded, and most importantly, it is the only set I’ve heard this year that couldn’t make me stop smiling.

So, just like how Estrella brought a massive smile to my face, I hope that it can do the same for you… Because that’s what this is all about - the music.

6 Driver Hybrid

The Estrella is a hybrid in-ear monitor that combines two advanced driver technologies with a total of six drivers per side. It features two custom 10mm PET diaphragm coaxial dynamic drivers, delivering powerful and impactful bass.

Additionally, four independent balanced armature drivers provide rich, detailed mids and treble. The Estrella utilizes genuine American Knowles 29689 and European Sonion 2345 full-range BA drivers, along with Sonion E50 series BA super tweeters, ensuring an immersive and high-fidelity audio experience.

Powerful Tuning

The Estrella was conceived to be a beast of an IEM. With almost 15dB of sub-bass quantity, Estrella produces incredible amounts of raw, powerful bass, and truly demonstrates the capacity of its 2DD system.

Furthermore, its crispy treble and lush mids on top creates a dynamic musical experience that won’t make you stop smiling. This makes Estrella perfect for both bass-lovers, and anyone seeking a different, unique, and mesmerizing sound. 

3-Way Crossover Tuning

Achieving tonal balance is a key factor in producing the best sound in a hybrid IEM configuration. The Estrella uses a 3-way crossover system with 3 independent sound tubes to achieve acoustic linearity and tonal balance. The bass has a focused sub-bass impact with strong and resounding kick drum emphasis. The mids have a natural warmth and fullness thanks to two full range BA drivers. The treble is crystal clear and refined thanks to the latest Sonion ultra-treble tweeter.

HBB is one of the biggest Hi-Fi audio reviewers globally, and has been a fundamental influencer in the hobby. With his extensive experience with IEM’s and headphones, HBB has provided unique insights into the tuning and design of ZiiGaat x HBB: Arcadia.

High-Quality Drivers

The Arcadia is a 1 dynamic driver + 2 balanced armature drivers hybrid IEM. Featuring genuine American Knowles ED 29689 and Knowles RAD 33518, the Arcadia utilizes the best-in-class balanced armature drivers for an uncompromising sound.

The Knowles 29689 full range driver is the absolute workhorse of the IEM industry, and has been tried-and-true in the world’s greatest earphones. The 29689 provides a completely natural and reference midrange, and extremely clarity to vocals and instruments. Meanwhile, the RAD 33518 is an ultra-frequency tweeter designed recently by Knowles to deliver excellent micro-detail retrieval and shimmer in the high frequencies.

10mm Topology Dynamic Driver

The Arcadia utilizes a brand new custom in-house dynamic driver to power the bass. This 10mm dynamic driver is designed with ZiiGaat’s custom Topology diaphragm. The Topology diaphragm is built using layers of nano-particle dispersion to create distinct topographical patterns on the surface, helping to disperse the sound specific to how it was designed. ZiiGaat’s custom Topology diaphragm has been carefully engineered to increase the speed and impact of the bass, while maintaining good sustain.

Perfect Tonal Balance

The ZiiGaat x HBB: Arcadia has been tuned to perfectly align to the current reference–class sound signature. With a strong and deep 8dB sub-bass tuning that pristinely cuts off at 200Hz, the Arcadia features a completely flat and natural midrange. This midrange tonality presents your music as it was intended by the audio engineer, without any muddying or coloring to the sound.

Furthermore, this makes the Arcadia a perfect studio monitor for professional musicians and sound engineers. The treble was also designed to mimic the perceived hearing of the human ear, with a natural mid-treble curvature, and a smooth slow–decaying treble. Thanks to the Knowles ultra-frequency tweeters, the upper treble is extremely well extended, providing an airy atmosphere and high definition. The Arcadia presents a sound signature that is professional and reference-class, perfect for the most discerning audiophile and musicians.

Three years ago, Zigaat began a journey with Fresh Reviews, a popular Youtube and social media audio reviewer, to find the best audio for competitive gaming. Testing numerous IEMs and headphones, the team created a “wall hack certified tier list” to highlight sound performance for gaming. Arete aims to deliver excellent imaging, separation, and detail for FPS games, balancing ease of use with versatility across different titles.

5 Driver Hybrid Configuration

Like its name implies, the Arete utilizes every driver to its full potential in this 1DD+4BA configuration. Classic American Knowles drivers were selected for the midrange and treble, owing to their tried and true performance, while a new biocellulose diaphragm dynamic driver was chosen to deliver a powerful bass.

Biocellulose Diaphragm Driver

A robust 10mm biocellulose diaphragm dynamic driver powers the sub-bass and bass response. Using stronger neodymium magnets, the bass response is extremely responsive and tight, while the biocellulose membrane allows better texturing in the low-end. Compared to typical balanced armtuare woofers, this larger 10mm dynamic driver allows significantly better bass performance.

American Knowles Balanced Armature Drivers

Two Knowles 29689 balanced armature drivers, famed for its persistent best-in-class midrange performance, deliver natural and accurate mids and mid-trebles. Particularly, vocals and string instruments excel thanks to the precisely tuned 29689 drivers.

Finally, the Knowles 31736 twin-balanced armature drivers was selected to deliver pristine upper treble response. These drivers are some of the best known and beloved drivers in the IEM industry, and ZiiGaat have brought them back to introduce a fresh sound, thanks to their latest tuning innovations.

Balanced Monitor Tuning

Tuning was the most essential aspect in developing the Arete. The tuning had to be natural, like professional studio monitors, while still delivering punchy bass and an enjoyable listening session. The midrange is almost flat and natural from 300Hz to 1kHz, which allows instruments and vocals to sound exactly like they were recorded, without any coloration.

Additionally, this neutral midrange allows excellent layering and imaging of instruments, allowing listeners to discern each instrument line within the mix.

Concentrated Bass Impact

To deliver a subwoofer-like bass signature, the bass has been tuned with a 9dB shelf that precisely cuts off at 300Hz. The bass hit is strong and deep, yet clean so that it does not add any muddiness to the sound. The tuning of the lower frequencies allows music enjoyers to fully appreciate all of the bass in the music, while retaining a clean and natural overall tone.

Professional Treble Response

The treble was carefully tuned, balancing clean tone with a comfortable and natural perception of upper treble harmonics. The upper treble response is free of any unnatural peaks or harshness, while delivering all the micro-details and nuances in the music. Finally, our special utilization of the Knowles 31736 tweeters allows excellent treble extension, allowing a more airy and spacious sound.

Three-way Crossover

The Arete’s tuning was made possible by an intricate 3-way electronic crossover system, along with three independent acoustic sound tubes per side. This configuration provides the best separation in the frequency ranges.

10mm Topology Dynamic Driver

The Odyssey utilizes a brand-new custom in-house dynamic driver to power the bass. This 10mm dynamic driver is designed with ZiiGaat’s custom Topology diaphragm. The Topology diaphragm is built using layers of nano-particle dispersion to create distinct topographical patterns on the surface, helping disperse the sound according to its design. Genuine American Knowles Drivers

For uncompromising sound quality, the Odyssey is built using genuine American Knowles balanced armature drivers. The new RAF 32873 driver provides excellent midrange response, delivering natural and well-textured vocal and instrument performances. Using two of these drivers allows enhanced output-to-distortion ratios, increasing the perceived resolution and definition in audio quality.

The RAD 33518 ultra-frequency tweeter has become the new industry standard in high-frequency performance. The 33518 offers a neutral timbre, allowing for treble extension and micro-detail retrieval without sounding shrill or metallic. Paired with the RAF 32873, this combination creates a completely coherent sound signature.

Excellence in Tuning

The ZiiGaat Odyssey has been tuned to perfection following their in-house tuning standards. The bass is focused on subwoofer-like performance, with powerful and impactful hits that quickly decay to prevent muddiness in the mid-frequencies.

Isobaric Dynamic Driver Subwoofers

The two dynamic driver subwoofers utilized is the latest innovation in the IEM market. Two separate 10mm polymer diaphragm drivers are arranged in an isobaric configuration in the proprietary acoustic enclosure. Crisp, Snappy, and Analog

The Crescent is simply a joy to listen to. Offering a unique musical experience, the sound of the Crescent can be described as feeling analog, with a hint of retro twang, similar to the character of vintage tube amps. The overall sound feels snappy and crisp, with fast transients that keeps the music feeling fresh while nostalgic. 

Four Independent Drivers

The Crescent features two separate dynamic drivers arranged in an isobaric configuration. A 10mm PET diaphragm driver was chosen to provide a thumpy kick bass rumble. A separate 10mm LCP diaphragm provides the transient speeds to keep the bass and low-mids feeling tight. Each driver is independently tuned, yet combining their acoustics in an isobaric configuration completely alters the textural output, allowing the unique vintage sound to the Crescent.

A custom ported Knowles 30262-163 midrange driver is carefully tuned to deliver  smooth yet firm mids. The midrange has a buttery texture that is airy while still encapsulating the accuracy of balanced armature drivers. The trebles are powered by the Knowles 33518 tweeters to bring out the micro details in the music. 

Tonal Balance

The secret to making the unique texture of the Crescent feel crisp is the tuning. The Crescent has been painstakingly tuned to fit ZiiGaat’s in-house tonal curvature. Featuring a robust 10dB sub-bass shelf that exactly cuts off at 250Hz, the bass is thumpy, focused, and pristine.

The midrange are free-from any bloating, allowing vocals and instruments to sound accurate, showcase their inherent warmth, and texture. The trebles have excellent bite and sizzle without any harshness thanks to a natural decay curvature. Micro peaks throughout the decay brings out every minute detail that keeps the sound feeling clear and full of air without being unnatural. 

Handcrafted Quality

Each Crescent unit is handcrafted. Beginning with a 3D-printed resin shell which uses imported medical-grade resin, the shell is durable and lightweight for extended studio usage. Each driver is hand-tested and paired prior to assembly to ensure perfect channel matching. Crescent units are then individually tested prior to finishing and polishing to ensure the highest degree of quality. Every faceplate is hand poured and decorated, providing a boutique look and feel. 

Custom Interchangeable Cable

The Crescent comes standard with an interchangeable 2-pin 0.78mm connector cable. The cable is constructed from ultra-pure grade silver-plated oxygen-free copper. Premium silver-plated copper wires ensure noise-free signal transmission for the highest quality of sound. The interchangeable cable design also optimizes  the longevity of the IEM and allows customizability in your wearing experience.

Large Diaphragm Dynamic Driver

Studio Tuning

The Cincotres was tuned to be a professional studio monitor. Featuring a precise sub-bass shelf at 300Hz, the bass is focused to sub-bass slam, but is completely free from any mid-bass bloat. The bass has a high impact, but quick decay, which pinpoints the lows to more tactile precision rather than sheer quantity.

The midrange from 300Hz to 1kHz was positioned in a slight linear incline, which makes for an extremely clean and neutral midrange tonality. This makes instruments and vocals sound as natural and accurate as possible to their actual sound.

The treble peaks precisely at 3kHz, which is the perfect compensation for the ear’s perceived pinna curvature. The treble is focused and natural, once again maximizing instrument and vocal clarity and bite, but not exaggerating artificial presence or details.

The ultra treble has a comfortable extension to provide excellent staging and imaging, as well as atmosphere. The Cincotres is intended for professional stage musicians, studio engineers, and audiophiles who want a studio-monitor-like sound signature for an accurate interpretation of music. 

Sonion and Knowles Balanced Armature Drivers

The Cincotres is designed around the latest Sonion 26A05 dual balanced armature driver from Europe and the Knowles 33518 super tweeter from the USA. Arranged in a 3-way crossover with the 2DD sub-woofer system, the Cincotres  provides the most optimal tonal balance and technical performance for professional studio and stage settings.

Dual Isobaric Subwoofers

The Arcanis utilizes dual 10mm dynamic drivers to deliver true subwoofer-like bass. The two drivers are arranged in an isobaric configuration to maximize output and efficiency while reducing distortion. With a powerful 9dB output at 20Hz, the 2DD system delivers excellent rumble and texture in the lows while remaining clean and focused.

5 Balanced Armature Drivers

The midrange and treble of the Arcanis are powered by 5 genuine American-made Knowles balanced armature drivers. Two Knowles 32873 drivers are arranged to deliver focused low-mid range integration between the dynamic drivers and the rest of the frequency spectrum.

Two full-ranged Knowles 29689 drivers are used to drive the mid-treble range, while a single high-efficiency Knowles 33518 tweeter provides crystal clear upper treble details. By utilizing multiple balanced armature drivers targeting specific frequency bandwidths, the Arcanis is able to increase output at lower distortion thresholds, thereby improving the audio resolution.

Precision Tuning

The Arcanis has been engineered with a 4-way passive crossover network to specify each driver group to their respective frequencies. The result is a professional tonal balance with an independent subwoofer response that cuts pristinely at 250Hz, a completely flat midrange that is free from any bloat or coloring, and an exceptionally natural treble curvature. The Arcanis is perfect for professional musicians and engineers, as well as audiophiles who want the most accurate audio playback.

Hand Assembled Quality

Each Arcanis unit is constructed from 3D printed medical-grade resin. The faceplates are individually hand painted and paired before assembly. Each unit is hand assembled, paired, and undergoes an individual QC process to check the sound, craftsmanship, and packaging.
